The present research has as general objective to elaborate and apply a Methodological Guide related to the Material Bases and the specific aspects of the Mendelian Heritage, based on a significant learning to improve the academic performance of the students of the course of Animal Genetics of the Professional School of Veterinary Sciences of the Ricardo Palma University and strengthen the development of attitudes; being its specific objectives to make a previous diagnosis of the academic performance of the students identifying critical points and, comparing their cognitive level, at the beginning of the course (Entrance test) and after the application of the Methodological Guide (Final test). This research is experimental, following a quasi-experimental design, consisting of two groups of students who are taught with traditional teaching method (control group) and another constructivist teaching method (experimental group) through the application of the Methodological Guide. The results of the comparative research between the pre-tests of both groups do not show significant differences, indicating cognitive homogeneity before the intervention. After the application of the methodological proposal, the comparison of the final test, between both groups, was significant, favoring the academic performances to the students of the experimental group at the higher or much higher levels, indicating these results that if there was a change in that group. Therefore, based on the hypothesis test of difference of means for related samples and with a 95% probability, it is affirmed that with the application of the Methodological Guide, the level of learning of the students of the Animal Genetics course is positively improved.
