The purpose of this research was to improve the performance of the vehicle fleet of a waste company, for which after making an analysis of the problematic situation, centralizing the analysis on the performance of the personnel, the administration of material resources and the effectiveness of the maintenance through the results; As a result of the analysis, it was found that the most frequent failures of the vehicles were due to wear, deterioration or breakage of various mechanical parts of them. In view of this, a preventive maintenance plan and a training program in mechanics for the personnel who operate the vehicles was proposed, seeking in this way to minimize the unforeseen stops of the vehicles, which by putting it into practice as a test, important savings were achieved: 1. Additional man-hours (S/. 1,239 nuevos soles) as overtime was minimized. 3. Penalties for misconduct (S/. 1,133 nuevos soles), as the vehicles did not fail, the penalties for non-compliance were reduced. In total, the average saving for these reasons was S/. 18,288 nuevos soles projected annually, which could be even greater if the policy of optimizing preventive maintenance is followed as a tool to improve productivity and satisfaction of the operators and the company in general. We can also say that the effectiveness of preventive maintenance has been widely given, because apart from the savings generated by reducing vehicle failures, also reduced the number of days of failure of service giving the amount of 93 days. Based on step 10 of the TPM (conduct training to improve the capacity of operation and maintenance), training and coaching were scheduled to improve staff performance, which were given after identifying the main failures of the vehicles, these trainings were given in the last two weeks of 2017, achieving significant results in the following months, as mentioned above.
