We present this research that aims to establish a relation between two variables, in one hand, the independent variable (V1) “Emotional Intelligence” and each one of its components as the intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, mood and the stress management, and in the other hand, the dependent variable (V2) “Academic Performance”. Likewise, we are trying to demonstrate the high, medium or low degree of the influence of V1 on V2. This research is an applied work, with a quantitative and correlational approach according to a design of the transversal non-experimental research study. The population taken for the study were 168 students enrolled between March 5 and July 5, 2019 in the courses of Stomatological Medicine I and II of “Alas Peruana” University; because the sample was composed of 132 students between both subjects, we have applied two instruments, the Emotional Intelligence survey called Emotional Quotient Inventory of Bar On that measures the degree of emotional intelligence and an Answer Sheet of the Ice of Baron composed of five alternatives, where the response of each student was reflected in accordance with the given options. The academic performance was obtained from the Evaluation Records of each one of the courses, where the final grades of the students were provided by the Coordinators of the Stomatological Medicine I and Stomatological Medicine II courses, respectively. In order to obtain the statistical analysis of our variables, we have used the Correlational Design Rho of Spearman, demonstrating a positive correlation between the independent variable “Emotional Intelligence” and the dependent variable “Academic Performance” in the students of Medicine I and II courses of the Stomatology Career of the “Alas Peruanas” University, when it was found (Rho = 0.573, p = 0.000 <0.05). Furthermore, this work has demonstrated a considerable positive relation between each one of the five emotional components and the academic performance in the above- mentioned students, that shows us the importance of incorporating emotional intelligence programs based on improvement workshops, so that the students learn to know and understand their own emotions by themselves, and they can identify clearly and learn also to control and regulate them for academic benefit in the Stomatological Medicine course.
