In this thesis the use and reinforcement of a cohesive soil of high plasticity extracted from kilometer 52 of the Trujillo-Otuzco highway, at the height of the Plazapampa sector, La Libertad, was studied. The addition of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers was proposed, to give it greater strength and deformability without cracking to the ground under study for use in road embankments. The reinforcement of the soil was carried out through random inclusions of discrete synthetic fibers (PET), which were distributed homogeneously in the soil mass. After the sampling, a geotechnical characterization was carried out and a compaction test of the standard Proctor type was carried out to obtain the parameters of maximum dry specific weight and optimum water content to be able to carry out the experimental program under these parameters. The variables that were taken into account for the fibro-reinforced soil were length and percentage of dosage. The lengths of 30 and 60 mm were used under the percentages of 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2% and 1.5% addition. The physicalmechanical performance of the different soil-fiber combinations was evaluated, through tests of relative support capacity and triaxial tests, with confinements of 0.5 kg / cm2, 1.0 kg / cm2 and 1.5 kg / cm2. From the results of the tests it was demonstrated that the reinforcement of the cohesive soils with PET fibers improved up to 60% the resistance of the soil and increased its capacity of deformation by 40%, therefore, through the analysis with the software SLIDE 6.0, the viability of its use was verified in road embankments with an increase in stability of up to 20%.
