Currently in Peru, the elderly population has increased, generating new needs that must be attended by the state. In Chimbote, there is neither a specialized health center for this population nor a state community center, but there is a public policy to improve the health infrastructure prioritizing that aimed at vulnerable populations, making it an ideal setting for development and design of a community and gerontological health center. For this reason, this project designs a day gerontological center in the city of Chimbote that meets all the needs of the elderly, both in the health and social areas. Thus, the project has a total area of 7,200 m2 divided into two main areas: the day center (workshops) and the health center (outpatient consultation and physical therapy); in addition to the administration and services area. The design of the space will be based on the use of materials from the area and the contextualization with the immediate surroundings, creating a network system between the New Hospital La Caleta, the gerontological center and other health facilities in the city. In addition, large outdoor common areas will be generated, such as squares and gardens, which will be related to the indoor common areas, such as waiting rooms, multipurpose room, and swimming pool. This inside-outside relationship is achieved thanks to the use of guayaquil cane (material typical of the region) both in structures and in covers, thus generating more welcoming spaces for the elderly.
