Supercapacitors (SCs) are energy storage devices. However, the amount of energy they can store depends on the surface area, pore size and volume distribution, electrical conductivity, etc. of the active material which are commonly based on carbonaceous materials, which play a fundamental role in the charge storage mechanism of the double layer. Nevertheless, obtaining activated carbon (AC) involves processes that require activating chemical agents (such as KOH, H3PO4, and ZnCl2), which are harmful to the environment. For this reason, this study reports on the use of HCO3- and CO32-, recovered from the aqueous extract of Molle wood ash (Schinus Molle L.) (EAC), as pretreatment agents for the delignification of lignocellulosic compounds present in biomass waste from pineapple crown leaves (HCP). To achieve this, a hydrothermal treatment is carried out at 150 °C, followed by fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 37 °C for 3 hours and pyrolysis at 900 °C in an argon atmosphere. The obtained activated carbons showed an increase in surface area from 436 to 755 m2 g-1 when NaHCO3 is incorporated in the pretreatment, and up to 1,176 m2 g-1 when EAC is combined with fermentation. The material with the highest reported surface area exhibits a specific capacitance of 159 F g-1 measured by cyclic voltammetry at a scan rate of 5 mV s-1 in H2SO41 mol L-1. In conclusion, the results demonstrate that the green synthesis of activated carbon is possible using Molle tree wood ash as a source of HCO3- and CO32- in combination with yeast as an activation medium.
