The current trend of countries in different regions of the world is to interconnect electrically, taking advantage of the associated economic, social and strategic benefits. This work aims to perform the steady-state and transient analysis of the coupling of two AC power systems; using one of the existing HVDC connection types, the AC - DC - AC static double conversion system, also known as Back to Back (BTB), dividing the study into four chapters. Chapter I shows the state of the art, describes the problematic reality, formulates the problem and establishes the objectives of the thesis, as well as the hypotheses to be contrasted. Chapter II presents the theoretical and conceptual framework on which the thesis is developed, mentions high voltage direct current systems (High Voltage Direct Current - HVDC), shows the technology of current source converters (Current Source Converter) - CSC), the technology of voltage source converters (Voltage Source Converter - VSC), the different configurations of HVDC systems, the topologies of existing VSC converters, multilevel converters with emphasis on the three-level converter with interlocked neutral point ( Neutral Point Clamped - NPC). The modulators for operating the power switches are studied, both the sinusoidal modulator (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation - SPWM) and the vector modulator (Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation SVPWM), with greater detail the SPWM for the three-level converter, used in the simulations, to then present traditional linear controls and nonlinear control techniques, showing the steps to design nonlinear Backstepping control. Finally, the mathematical modeling of the HVDC - BTB - VSC system is presented, in the abc and dq0 reference frames. The application of the technique of decoupled PI linear control and nonlinear Backstepping control is presented in chapter III. Chapter III develops the system of equations for the decoupled PI control of the currents Id and Iq in the converters, the control of the active and reactive powers, the PI controls of the voltage in the DC link, and the voltage balance between the DC capacitors of said link. Next, the non-linear Backstepping control is applied to the same HVDC - BTB - VSC system, the system of equations used for its design is presented, the Backstepping control of the voltage in the DC link, that of the currents Id and Iq of the converters, the equations and control laws involved, as well as the control of the active and reactive powers, to then show the Simulink diagrams corresponding to the proposed controls. Chapter IV presents the parameters used in the simulations, and their results using linear PI controls and non-linear Backstepping controls. For each simulated case, the BTB system and its operating conditions are described above. The simulation results of the BTB coupling of two ideal AC systems are analyzed, using PI controls, without considering filters and then using filters, which are previously designed, in addition, the start-up procedure of the BTB system is detailed; the results of the BTB coupling of two ideal AC systems are also analyzed, using non-linear Backstepping controls, without filters and with filters, which serve to show the superiority of the non-linear Backstepping control over the PI control. The results of the BTB coupling of two real power systems, which include transformers, transmission lines and loads, are analyzed using non-linear Backstepping controls and filters, also evaluating their dynamic behavior against faults. For each simulation, the voltage and current distortion and harmonics report is presented. Finally, the contrast of the secondary and main hypotheses is carried out. Conclusions are presented based on the results obtained, as well as recommendations and future work.
