This work describes the design of the Wastewater Treatment Plant of the city of Juliaca in the province of San Román, Puno region. The Juliaca WWTP is part of the comprehensive Titicaca WWTP project that covers an intervention in ten of the three provinces of the Puno region in order to develop a solution for the treatment of municipal wastewater from the Lake Titicaca basin. The Juliaca WWTP will replace the existing La Chilla WWTP, which currently performs inadequate wastewater treatment. This work describes the designs of the water line, solids and sludge line, and gas line of the Juliaca WWTP. In the water line, the design of the mechanized preliminary treatment, circular primary settlers, activated sludge system with dosage of ferric chloride prior to secondary sedimentation, and final disinfection with chlorine. In the sludge line, on the one hand, the treatment and disposal of screenings, sands and greases, on the other hand, the treatment of primary and secondary sludge by means of sludge screening, mixing, thickening, high-rate anaerobic digestion with heating of sludge, and final dewatering. Finally, in the gas line, the storage, treatment, burning of biogas and energy cogeneration. The designs were made to meet the minimum requirements established in the Concession Contract and current national regulations.
