The implementation of a commercial plant to produce synthetic petroleum through the pyrolysis of non-recyclable plastic waste collected from collection centers in the cities of Lima and Callao is proposed. This approach represents an energy and environmental valorization, as it addresses a portion of the pollution issues stemming from plastic waste and would mitigate the unfavorable trade balance caused by the importation of crude oil due to the limited domestic production of the latter. The thermal pyrolysis process of plastic waste is designed, simulating sequential stages of separation, pretreatment, melting, pyrolysis, vaporization, and selective condensation. This sequence yields a gaseous stream utilized as a heat source within the process, alongside a liquid stream of synthetic petroleum. The latter has the potential to alleviate Peru's energy demand. In this regard, the characterization of the feedstock was established, encompassing blends of municipal plastic waste, including three variety of plastic resins: polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS). Moreover, the study undertakes a project feasibility analysis, encompassing a market study, organizational assessment, analysis of petroleum supply and demand, technical assessment for plant installation and siting, environmental impact assessment with due consideration of social aspects. Finally, an economic and sensitivity analysis is conducted, calculating investment using economic indicators to evaluate project viability.
