Grounding is a fundamental aspect in the protection of people and electrical equipment in electrical power installations, especially in high voltage substations. Proper configuration of the grounding network is essential to dissipate or conduct fault currents to ground and minimize the risk of electrical shock. In this sense, the optimization of the grounding network is an important challenge that requires the development of efficient and effective algorithms. In this context, the “Evolutive Simulated Annealing“ (ESA) algorithm is presented as an innovative solution for the optimization of grounding networks. ESA is an algorithm that includes mutation and crossover operations in the search for neighboring solutions within the simulated annealing algorithm, which is inspired by the slow cooling of crystalline materials. The objective of this thesis is the design and implementation of the ESA algorithm for the optimization of grounding networks. The focus is on reducing the cost of the materials used for their construction, but also analyzing changes in touch and step voltages, grounding resistance, and variables defining its configuration. It is expected that this research will contribute to the development of innovative and effective solutions for the optimization of grounding networks in electrical installations, with the aim of improving safety and efficiency in the use of electrical energy.
