The geological-geotechnical study for the construction of the dam consists of the geological and geotechnical characterization and analysis of the materials used for its construction. The study area is located in the southeast area of the district of San Marcos, Huari province, Ancash region. The mountainous relief is steep to steep, shaped by glacial action. The outcrops of quartz sandstone and quartzite form subvertical to vertical cliffs up to 100 m of altitude, the outcrops of lutites, limolites and fine sandstone have undulating to moderately steep reliefs. The basement is formed by the Chicama Formation, which is superimposed by the Oyón, Chimú, Santa, Carhuaz, Farrat, Pariahuanca, Chúlec, Pariatambo, Jumasha and Celendín Formations, at the top of the sequence. The aim of this professional work is the analysis of the Geological-Geotechnical study for an adequate waterproofing of tailings dams, for this it is necessary to evaluate the potential development of a new tailings deposit in the area calledNew Support Area - NAS, located in the Ganyas Valley, 18 km to the south, within the limits of San Marcos. The methodology consisted of carrying out a surface geological mapping to identify and define the geological contacts, the structures, and the types of rocks, in addition, a geological and geotechnical analysis of the vertical diamond drilling of 1005.8m m deep located in sedimentary rocks was carried out, to determine its characteristics we will carry out the Calicata and hydraulic tests determining the permeability of the soil.
