In this thesis, an animal functionalized woven with antibacterial properties was developed for using in footwear with the purpose of inhibiting the growth of bacteria that is generated in the lining and insole of the shoe made of animal nonwoven, which cause bad odor and deterioration of such nonwoven. The functionalization process was carried out in the stage of dyeing by the method of exhaustion, in aqueous medium, of a conventional tannery process. This procedure was based on 2 solutions: chitosan solution with acetic acid and chitosan solution with oxalic acid. These 2 processes were made in order to compare the effectiveness between them. The functionalized dyed samples were morphologically characterized and analyzed microbiologically against the strain of the bacterium Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922). Furthermore, quality controls were carried out such as color fastness to dry rubbing, wet rubbing, sweat resistance, abrasion resistance, resistance to dry bending and resistance to double tearing. From the results found, it was concluded that the samples of animal nonwoven functionalized with chitosan and acetic acid have better antibacterial properties and quality controls with respect to the other process.
