The present research work: “Analysis of cost reduction of public lighting service in a south Peruvian distribution electricity company with LED luminaries respect to high pressure sodium lamps - HPSL“ through quantitative research assesses the impact of technological innovation with LED luminaries respect to HPSL in the public lighting service, on protection of environment and its economic viability in the electricity company. The hypothesis held about analyses of LED luminaries use than HPSL will allow cost reduction of public lighting service in a south Peruvian distribution electricity company, is positive The technological change in public lighting in the company under study with predominancy HPLS lamps, will allow to reduce the electricity demand from 9.68 MW to 5.55 MW, it means 45%. In the period of study, according of public lighting billing analysis with HPLS lamps luminaries is S/. while with LED lamps is S/. reducing by 39%. About energy saving and carbon dioxide emitting it is observed a reducing by 43%. The carbon dioxide stopped of emitting is 8184.61 TON per year. The net present value is US$ 1455469.07, the investment return is 9.81% higher than opportunity cost stablished in electricity area, 8.7% and between +/- 4% of 12% i nvestment rate stablished; therefore, the technological change of public lighting with LED luminaries is viable economically.
