In the world such as in this country is increasing the population with diabetes, which doesn't except workers in the construction sector, they could been exposed to have foot injuries in an accident at work, which would bring complications to a diabetic worker. For this reason, it s important to implement such as the use of adequate footwear, which is why this thesis considered the design of safety footwear for diabetic workers (or at risk of diabetes) in the construction sector was raised as the problem to be solved. First, it was calculated the percentage of workers in the construction sector at risk of diabetes by FINDRISC calculator tool and a survey that considered 226 construction workers (CW) were evaluated. It was determined that 0.05% presented a high risk of having diabetes. Afterwards, the comfort of current safety footwear was evaluated considering three dimensions (biomechanical, physiological, and psychological). A global comfort of more than 50% compliance was obtained for each of the comfort dimension of industrial safety footwear; however, according to the analysis, to achieve the comfort of a diabetic patient, this didn t meet the required characteristics (ventilation, weight, padding, hardness), so opportunities for improvement were identified to propose the required design. It was proposal a last design from the anthropometric measurements of the foot of 13 CW taken by a scanner. Also, information provided by specialists through interviews and other sources of information was collected to obtain the characteristics of the footwear that was proposed to be designed. Finally, the safety footwear design model was made with assisted design software, 3D printing of the last and recommendations for the selection of the material were proposed. Keywords — Construction Workers (CW), construction sector, diabetes, safety footwear, comfort, anthropometry, physical-mechanical footwear tests, CITEccal-Lima.
