The central objective of this thesis is to design the wooden pillars and supports to preserve the excavation stability during the exploitation of gold deposits by the Shortwall Mining method. To carry out this, parameters such as rock mass quality, geometric and engineering parameters of eucalyptus wood were identified and characterized. Some factors with the highest incidence in the occurrence of pillar failure modes (progressive, structural and pillar bursting) were identified. In order to determine the stability, the quantitative approach research was carried out, using the observation data collection technique; the design of the non-experimental research that was applied longitudinally and the safety factor of pillars and wooden supports was calculated. With supports with struts and/or frames, the best recovery was not achieved, but joining with wood pack a recovery higher than 80% with a safety factor above 1.30 is achieved. The configuration of the panels is based on panel widths up to 36m and length of 41.50m and height of 1.90m. In conclusion, the exploitation of gold deposits with dips cast with wooden supports is stable, applying Shortwall Mining.
