This research tries to define a calculation method of the máximum demand for IT hardware in data centers that permit improve profitability and reduce the risks of fire and fatal accidents. One of the main problems in the implementations of data centers is the calculation method of the maximum demand, because the maximum demand indicated in the data sheets is generally used, it's greater than the maximum real demand and which results in the oversizing of the infrastructure, increased costs, reduced profitability and increased risks of fire and fatal accidents. As an approach to the solution, the information on all the IT hardware installed in the data centers was collected, the IT hardware was classified by platforms (Backups, Communications, SAN, Storage, System p, System x), consumption measurement of the IT hardware, search for data sheets on the web pages of the IT hardware manufacturers, calculation of the consumption ratio (measured kW / technical manual kW) that has an average value of 48%, the maximum optimal demand calculation was carried out, calculation of profitability and calculation of the level of risk of fire and fatal accidents. As a validation or verification method, the calculations were performed in a new implementation and in another data center, comparing the calculated values with the measured values of maximum demand, an average margin of error of 4.77% was obtained.
