The objective of this sufficiency work is to analyze the reliability of the molten zinc metal transport system, to increase the life of graphite pumps. In addition, balance cost, risk and benefit, establishing recommendations, good maintenance practices, basic care of transportation system equipment and optimization of maintenance strategies, using reliability tools such as Pareto analysis, distribution function analysis of Weibull, Failure Modes and Effects analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) and root cause analysis of failures. The problem of the research focuses on the premature wear of the components of the graphite pumps, fundamental equipment for the pumping system of liquid zinc at 520ºC used in the zinc refineries. Most of the pump components are made of graphite and it has the advantage of working at high temperatures. However, their main disadvantage is brittleness and low hardness, which makes them unprotected during the entire maintenance, installation and operation process. In the development of this work, technical information has been compiled from manufacturer's manuals, pumping system specialist manuals, reliability analysis studies and optimization of pumping systems and rotating equipment and international technical standards listed in the bibliography part. For the reliability analysis, the data on failure times of the components of the pumping system, the consumption of spare parts, failure rates, maintenance costs, operating parameters of the graphite pumps and characteristics of their operational context were collected. Failure data was collected and classified according to ISO 14224 and the main failure modes, mechanisms and causes were determined. The analysis was performed through Excel spreadsheets, the statistical software Minitab and the RCM decision logic diagram. As results of the analysis, recommendations were obtained to increase the useful life time and the level of reliability of graphite pumps through component replacement activities before failure with a level of reliability balanced with the risk and cost of maintenance. also modifications in the design of the pump installations to make them more robust. In addition to recommendations to implement condition monitoring such as vibration analysis and thermography to pneumatic motors. Finally, recommendations were established to improve operational reliability through inspection routines, basic care by the operator, and operational cleaning plans.
