During the past 18 years, the Peru has been witness to one of the biggest events in economic history and the energy sector of the country: the development of the natural gas industry. Commercial operation of the Camisea Project (August 2004) and the adoption of a regulatory framework promoting the industry of natural gas (late 1990s) were historic milestones that have led to a dramatic transformation: the reconfiguration and diversification of primary energy matrix in the country, particularly in the electricity sector. This has improved the trade balance of hydrocarbons and created opportunities for Peruvian households and economic sectors, such as industry and trade, benefit from a clean fuel and low-cost. The recognition of the relevance of the industry of natural gas in Peru in the last 18 years and, in particular, the significance of the Camisea Project for the Peruvian economy, led to the elaboration of a technical economic study to obtain petrochemical ethane from an existing cryogenic plant which makes the separation of natural gas from its condensate; and so, Peru who is now an importing country inputs derived from ethane mainly such types of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride of vinyl and polystyrene, happens to be a country that covers their domestic commodity demand and surplus can export them, giving it a greater added value to these products. To do so, is an in-depth review of reference background, finding similar to the subject in study and research. Then, shows the theoretical framework on which the foundations of this research, which has a study and evaluation of the market of natural gas, ethane and derivatives, as well as a brief development of how natural gas is processed. Once seated the bases, the method was developed to solve the problem through a technical assessment which includes the approach, design and simulation of the modification of the natural gas separation plant to obtain ethane; and thus, performing the economic assessment to evaluate the profitability of the project, which demonstrate the feasibility of this type of project.
