The objective of this research is the removal of sulfates present in industrial wastewater in the Andacancha micro-basin area by reaction with Barium Citrate [C12H10Ba3O14] and removing it as barium sulfate. For the experimental tests, a solution of Barium Citrate was prepared, using 25 ml of distilled water, adding 5g of 99% Citric Acid (C₆H₈O₇), stirred until transparent, then 1g of Barium Carbonate ( BaCO3) was stirred until clear; then several 50 ml volumes of the test sample were prepared, adding volumes of 3 ml, 2.5 ml, 1.5 ml, 1.0 ml, 0.5 ml, 3.5 ml and 4 ml of Barium Citrate, then 1ml volumes; 0.8 ml and 0.5 ml of 0.05% Magnafloc flocculant, it was waited 10 and 15 minutes in which the barium sulfate precipitated and the pH of the samples was measured and in a funnel with a Whatman N Filter 42 was filtered 20 ml of the treated sample. Finally, the sulfate concentration was determined by means of a Spectrophotometer to obtain the Sulfate concentrations. Likewise, the experimental tests were repeated with 2.5 g of 99% Citric Acid and 0.5 g of BaCO3. The Pareto principle was used for a full factorial design, using Minitab statistical software in order to establish a model to determine the factors and effects between Barium Citrate, Magnafloc Flocculant, time and removal. As a result of the application of 2.5 ml of Barium Citrate and 1 ml of Magnafloc flocculant with a residence time of 10 minutes, it has been possible to remove 89.05% of sulfates, reaching the values of the sulfates to be found below the value of 300 mg / L of sulphates established in the ECAs according to Supreme Decree No. 002-2008 - MINAM, for Category 3 water.
