This thesis consisted in obtaining and characterizing cellulose biocomposites with zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) that present excellent protection against ultraviolet radiation (UVR). The biocomposites were obtained from the textile dye method by exhaustion, using the ECO DYER-24 high-temperature dyeing machine. The functionalization process was improved by adding a prewash process to the textile. Then, during the functionalization process, some parameters such as dosage and concentration of reagents, temperature, and homogenization speed, were evaluated. The biocomposites, made of cellulose and ZnO NPs, were subjected to resistance tests of 15 washes, using the AATCC 61-1996 standard. The structural characterization of the biocomposites was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and select area electron diffraction pattern (SAED); the morphological characterization was developed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM); and elemental characterization was performed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Finally, and ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) measurements were performed on the biocomposites.
