The main objective of this thesis work is to propose the design of an air conditioning system applying the principles of ice water systems, to control the parameters of the indoor air in the rooms of the Electrical Building of the new water demineralization and desalination plant. of sea from the Refinery of Petro Perú S.A. located in the city of Talara, Peru. In the Electrical Building there are the electrical rooms and the RIE (Remote Instrument Enclosure) room, these rooms being of great importance for the proper functioning of the plant, since they will house the electrical and electronic equipment necessary for the operation of the plant. same. There is also a battery room, which in the event of a power cut from the main network, will provide the necessary energy to the plant so that it can continue with its operation. The air conditioning in the rooms of the Electrical Building responds to the problem of temperature, humidity, purity and pressure control of the air inside, due to the dissipation of heat and flammable gases (battery room), of the equipment that will house these rooms, as well as air pollution typical of the place and processes that occur in the Refinery. Therefore, the use of bibliographical references based on local and international regulations, and books related to air conditioning, is made to determine the values and design methods of the air conditioning system that is developed. The thesis is developed from a quantitative approach, defining and manipulating physical variables that allow to propose an air conditioning system that responds to the problems that are generated in the rooms, its first purpose being to determine the required cooling loads, as well as the amount of air that will be required to vent and pressurize. The cooling load calculation method and the values of the air parameters, which are supplied to the rooms, are determined by analyzing the methods indicated in the standards of the American Society of Heating, Ventilation Engineers and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE), basing the choice based on the type of construction of the Electrical Building, and the environmental and geographical conditions. Once the calculation methodology is defined, Elite CHVAC thermal load calculation software is used for the analysis of results. For the design, the use of Chilled Water Generating Units (Chiller) and Air Handling Units (UMA) is proposed due to their characteristics and customization that they have, adapting to the needs of the rooms, as well as Pressurizing Units to maintain a positive pressure in the electrical rooms and RIE room, while in the battery room it is considered to have Extraction Units for the extraction of 100% of indoor air. On the other hand, a system control logic is developed, with a level of automation that resorts to the use of programmable logic controllers (PLC), to provide autonomy, monitoring and continuous control of the air conditioning system. Finally, the analysis of the proposed design is carried out, contrasting and validating the calculations obtained to achieve the elimination of the heat gained in the rooms and maintain the design conditions required with compliance with the regulations developed, as well as the preparation of a general budget of the cost. of capital that implies the implementation of the system.
