This work addresses the issue of power quality applied in the mining industry, where we find that the characteristics of a reactive compensation system must be treated with special care, because it is necessary to carry out a study that confirms the values of the system without assuming standard characteristics of your electrical system or your loads. The main objective is to be able to evaluate the electrical parameters indicated in a power quality study to determine the electrical characteristics that a reactive compensation system should have, therefore, the characteristics that its main component, which is the unit capacitor, should have. To meet the objective, it will be necessary to confirm if the power factor, whose measurement will be in the Poroma 220kV bus, is optimal; in addition to confirming that the harmonic current is such that it does not harm the equipment or the system, and that they comply with what is indicated by international standards. Finally, to confirm the characteristics of the capacitive units, it will be necessary to know the quantities and then determine their electrical values as the external insulation of each capacitive unit. When all these requirements are met, we can indicate that the reactive compensation system that will be installed in a mine complies with the standards established in both the national and international standards.
