The study of “Evaluation of the sedimentation rate for the optimization of the use of flocculants in a flotation tailings thickener of a polymetallic mineral“ was carried out in the metallurgical laboratory of the Coricancha concentrator plant, which is located in the district of San Mateo, province of Huarochirí and department of Lima, in the central zone of Peru. The objective of this thesis was to evaluate the sedimentation rate to optimize the use of flocculant for flotation tailings treatment, using experimental design methodology, descriptive statistics and Minitab 19 software. Taking into consideration that the concentrator plant uses the Mix flocculant and does not present operational problems in the flotation tailings thickener, but a high consumption of 100 g/MTS of flocculant. A fully randomized experimental design was used to study the performance of six different flocculants such as Matfloc AS23, Ixofloc 2051, Ixofloc 3027, Magnafloc 338, H610 and Mix, and a fully randomized block design to study the influence of their g/TMS consumption and concentration. The results obtained from these tests showed that the flocculants that have a higher sedimentation rate and that statistically work in a similar way are: H610, Ixofloc 3027 and Mix with speeds of 0.187, 0.181 and 0.168 m/h respectively, in this reason the Mix flocculant turned out to remain an excellent alternative for the treatment of the flotation tailings due to its low cost of 3.84 $/kg compared to the two flocculants already mentioned, Likewise, it was determined that by using a flocculant concentration of less than 0.076 % (variable used in the operation) such as 0.050 and 0.025 %, an average saving of 33.2 % or 1376.9 $/month and 59.1 % or 2451.0 $/month of flocculant respectively can be obtained.
