In this work, the effectiveness of a group of formulas has been evaluated, including those indicated in the NTE E.030 to calculate the minimum separation between structures and three proposals have also been proposed to estimate these separations safely. In order to idealize buildings, various types of models have been developed, such as the simplified discrete models with elastic behavior and the capacity to enter in the inelastic range. These types of models have the versatility to idealize with few degrees of freedom buildings with shear, bending behavior or a combination of both. On the other hand, more elaborate models have also been used, such as those of real structures with elastic and inelastic behavior. In the elastic behavior models, the stiffness of the structural elements have been reduced as indicated by the ACI 318 committee. The seismic demand is made up of four seismic events that occurred in: Ica 2007, Llolleo 2010 (Chile), Moquegua 2001 and Lima 1966. These earthquakes have been matched to the design spectrum of NTE E.030. In total, 674 evaluations of separations between structures have been carried out, finding in general that; The separations obtained from spectral modal analysis according to what is indicated in NTE E.030 and without reduction of stifnesses are not reliable, because these results are well below the separations obtained when using nonlinear time-history analysis. On the other hand, it was determined that the NTE E.030 formulas have very low effectiveness. The formula related to height (0.006h) has an effectiveness of 60% on average and the one related to displacements (2/3(d1+d2) has an effectiveness of 50% on average. Given these poor estimates, in the calculation of the minimum separations between neighboring buildings, three alternative procedures were proposed, showing effectiveness greater than 86% based on data from real models with elastic behavior.
