In the current investigation a two-dimensional evaluation of the geotechnical seismicbehavior of tailings dams in abandonment in Ticapampa - Santa River has been onducted. The investigation is performed due to the risks of physical instability of tailings dams in abandonment in Peru, which can be increased by the high seismicity of the country, since the materials that compose the tailings are prone to landslides, liquefaction, and erosion; and the more catastrophic failure of tailings facilities in the world have occurred as consequences of earthquakes. The geotechnical seismic behavior of two-dimensional stability of the tailing dam has been analyzed using the software QUAKE/W 2007 GeoStudio group, which performs a dynamic analysis considering the linear equivalent constitutive model, according to which the characteristics of stiffness and damping of soil are initially considered linear and then adjusted by iteration until they are compatible with the levels of deformation induced in the ground; for the seismic dynamicanalysis the finite element numerical method is used. This analysis allows to evaluate properly and with a greater approximation the seismic behavior of such complex geotechnical structures. The results obtained from the two-dimensional assessment, carried out for the critical cross section of the abandonment in Ticapampa tailing dam, show that when the E-O time-history of the Ancash earthquake occurred on 05-31-1970, escalated to the acceleration of 0.33g is analyzed, displacements, velocities, accelerations, and considerable deformation are generated, i.e., failures are generated and breakage of the abandonment tailings dams, producing instability in its behavior in the current conditions.
