The project was carried out in the company GyM S.A. Whose activities are developed in the field of Engineering and Construction, as part of the Modernization Project of the Talara Refinery, being its client the company “Técnicas Reunidas de Talara”. In October 2017, I participated in the project observing a rejection rate indicator of 11%, which directly affected the company. A progressive increase was detected in recent months, generating dissatisfaction with the Customer, as well as an increase in production cost. The objective of this project was to identify the origin of the problems mentioned above in order to find solutions that satisfy the quality requirements with our client, and improve the performance of the main process that the company has, which is welding. This is why my knowledge of statistics led me to get involved in the process. The modelling of the data allowed us to obtain: groups of welders with the highest probability of rejection in their tests, identify the outlier welders, perform a Pareto of defects, analyze and develop controls to mitigate the most frequent errors. These tools were chosen because they are focused on the continuous improvement technique, in order to serve as a basis for the solution of future problems that may occur.
