This is an innovative work at the plant level that was developed in the Visbreaking Unit (UVB) of La Pampilla Refinery (RELAPASA), technology of ABB Lummus Global B.V. He understood the conceptual design, basic, economic justification, detailed design, execution, commissioning, and operation in plant, obtaining economic benefit and quality products. The work involved technical and operational modifications in the UVB which bases its operation on the thermal cracking at high temperature and pressure, of the vacuum residual that comes out as a product of funds of the Vacuum Units. The goal of UVB is to break down the molecules and obtain a lighter and less viscous product than the one access that requires less use of diluent to convert it into fuel oil. In the bibliographic search, an article was found from the company PETROFINE, specialized in making simulation software for Refineries, which have the UVB Technology both for the thermal cracking of the vacuum residue, and for the thermal cracking of the HVGO (heavy vacuum diesel). That is where the idea of making the modifications of hardware and process variables to produce diesel in the UVB was born by processing the HVGO that is fed to the FCC unit to produce high octane gasoline and LCO to prepare the different types of Fuel Oil, which in the case of RELAPASA was a surplus that was stored and exported. The balances of matter and energy are those obtained in the actual evaluations in the plant. The equipment corresponds to those of the actual processing units. The economic evaluation carried out shows the benefits obtained by processing the HVGO as a load in the Visbreaker Unit.
