Peru is a mining country; worldwide and in Latin America, Peru is among the leading producers of various metals. Since 1975, the Uchucchacua Mine (Lima - Oyón) has processed silver minerals (Ag) with a high content of manganese (Mn), obtaining concentrates with silver (Ag), lead (Pb) and manganese (Mn) that are difficult to commercialize. Procesadora Industrial Rio Seco S.A originated from the need to remove manganese from alabandite concentrate at the Uchucchacua mine, since the concentrate was penalized for containing manganese. Manganese sulfate monohydrate is a micronutrient that makes up various formulations to strengthen plants or crops. In Peru, a Process Plant has been built to extract the manganese from the alabandite concentrate at the Uchucchacua mine and process it to obtain manganese sulfate monohydrate. The manganese sulfate monohydrate obtained is commercial grade, and can be used in agriculture to improve the quantity and quality of the production of various crops. The Process Plant of Procesadora Industrial Rio S.A. It has three plants: Acid Washing Plant, Sulfuric Acid Plant and Crystallization Plant; which interact to obtain the final product: manganese sulfate monohydrate. By removing most of the manganese from the alabandite concentrate composition, two other metals increase in concentration: silver (Ag) and lead (Pb); which gives added value to the concentrate from Uchucchacua, thus the concentrate is also commercialized. In this professional sufficiency work report, the processes for obtaining manganese sulfate monohydrate from alabandite concentrate and my participation in their improvement are described.
