Hydrocarbon refining and commercialization activities are carried out in oil refineries, where oil is converted into products such as: domestic GLP gas, motor gasoline, solvents, diesel, asphalt and other used in the petrochemical industry. In the refinery units for the inerting process where natural or refinery gas is not used, there are nitrogen plants that supply gaseous nitrogen. It is also used as an instrument airline backup system. A failure in the operating system of the nitrogen plant significantly affects the operation of the process units, especially the vaporization system that is responsible for supplying the largest amount of nitrogen gas flow. The purpose of this work is to improve the liquid nitrogen vaporization system of nitrogen plants in oil refineries based on the design of a control and data acquisition system. From the definition of a control and communications architecture, a graphical interface based on SCADA is developed. This system achieves automatic records of the amount of nitrogen gas delivered to the auxiliary units and controlling the minimum flow of 610 m3/h and a maximum of 17100 m3/h.
