Most construction projects are managed using traditional methods. This conventional project management leads to frequent project problems such as cost overruns, late deliveries, project accidents and dissatisfied customers. Lean Construction has proven to be a good alternative solution to these problems. This is how Peru started adopting Lean Construction more than 20 years ago, achieving positive results in various types of projects such as mining, buildings, infrastructure, and energy. However, implementers have frequent problems with people management, top management support, tool selection, resistance to change by adopting the new way of working and other factors that have delayed the maturity of the implementation in the organization. For this reason, it is essential to understand this phenomenon and provide companies with strategies that support the internalization of the Lean philosophy in their projects. The research is divided into six chapters. The first chapter, introduction, discusses the structure of the research, background, the problem, the aims, and the hypothesis to be tested. The second chapter reviews the Lean Construction approach in Peru and globally, key concepts to be known for the research and project management approaches. The third chapter discusses the methodology used for the identification of barriers and the proposed roadmap. The fourth chapter analyses the surveys conducted, the main Lean benefits and the most used tools in Peru. The fifth chapter analyses the barriers to implementation based on the types of projects, stages of the projects and the size of the companies. The sixth chapter presents the roadmap proposal, its uses, structure and interpretation, in addition, two case studies were made to companies. The proposed roadmap is a solution to the barriers to obtain the highest probability of success in the implementation of Lean Construction. The approach of the roadmap was carried out from the company, involving academia and the state. The research is expected to guide professionals to make better decisions, anticipate barriers, share good practices and that senior managers adopt Lean Construction as an alternative solution to their problems.
