The purpose of this research work is to present some of the factors that intervene in a control blast in an open pit operation, focusing on their improvement in order to guarantee an optimal granulometry of the fired material. For this purpose, it will be identified if there is any benefit, based on the fragmentation values obtained, when using the emulsion called Flexigel as an explosive instead of conventional mixtures such as Heavy ANFO. Starting from this, the P80 fragmentation data of each blasting agent was taken as a direct measurement instrument and the Student's T-Test will be used comparing the means between the results, with this it is determined that the fragmentation obtained with Flexigel presents lower values than the Heavy ANFO, reducing its average by 10.85%, to complement this comparative analysis, the performance of the excavation equipment during loading will also be considered as indirect measurement instruments, which improve by 4.78%, as well as through flow and energy consumed. in the crushing process that registered improvements of 4.52% and 8.12% respectively, from the use of Flexigel. Finally, it will seek to give added value to the comparison of both explosives by contrasting the vibrations generated by the detonation whose values decrease in a range of 30% and the slope angle obtained with respect to the design slope angle, established by the pre-cut fired previously. 6 ° improvement according to the geotechnical reconciliation carried out. Given the limitation that such comparisons are made punctually in only two shots, it is concluded that, although the cost of Flexigel is higher, the direct and indirect indicators related to fragmentation improve significantly with the use of this explosive.
