This thesis is focused on improving the quality of Api barite to migrate to higher value industrial applications of the “Y“ mine, owned by non-metallic mining company “X“ S.A; through the application of an innovative method of densimetric separation in dry conditions for the purification of barite. The thesis is made up of four fundamental chapters that interrelated with each other. In the first chapter, it addresses the problem and the need to implement a method to improve the quality of API barite, the justification and importance of the present investigation, as well as the identification of dependent and independent variables. In the second chapter, it deals with the investigations carried out in the national and international barite markets, physical and chemical properties of the different qualities, as well as the application of various tests to find the percentages of specific gravity, green filter and Barium sulfate content in barite. In the third chapter, it deals with the research methodology to be used with its respective phases or procedures to achieve the final design is mentioned, the data collection technique and the data collection procedure are also defined. Finally, the fourth chapter, it covers the results obtained from the implementation of the densimetric separation method in dry conditions, and its positive impact on the final contribution to the results, discussion and interpretation of these. The diagnosis of the results obtained has been developed with the information of the real data obtained from the descriptive memory of the “Y” mine and provided by internal systems of the company under study.
