To optimize the thickening of concentrate in Mina San José, sedimentation tests are applied at the laboratory level. The development of these tests is an experimental type of research. Sedimentation tests use a chemical reagent called flocculant, which will have a certain concentration and different dosage will be applied for each test, both the concentration and the dosage of flocculant would be the indicators that are modified for each test, and from the tests the percentage of final solids and the sedimentation rate are calculated, the latter would be the indicators resulting from the research. In the concentrator plant of Mina San José there is no previous research in having carried out sedimentation tests to the thickening of the concentrate, so that there is no information on the concentration and dosage of adequate flocculant, in addition to the factors that end up influencing the percentage of the final solids, that is why the need arises to apply sedimentation tests to improve the percentage of final solids of the thickener of concentrate. By improving the percentage of final solids of the concentrate thickener, it is also benefiting the water resource in greater water recovery, better water quality and positively influencing the next stages of the process. The range for flocculant dosing from 0.5 g/t to 0.9 g/t, a flocculant concentration of 0.055% and percentage of initial solids fed to the thickener between 8 to 9% are the ones that achieve the best results of percentage of final solids.
