The purpose of the new Talara refinery is to expand production capacity from 65,000 bbl to 95,000 bbl and process heavy hydrocarbons and includes the installation of new processing units, auxiliary units and facilities. Acid gas and sour water streams generated in the refinery operations must treated. In the refinery, the acid components of the gaseous streams (H2S and CO2) are absorbed with diethanolamine (DEA) obtaining various streams of rich amine which are sent to the Amine Regeneration Unit (AM2) where poor amine obtained will be returned to the units and acid gases will be sent to the Sulfuric Acid Production Unit (WSA) The quality parameters of the rich amine and acid gas product streams have established; that is, the process must meet operational parameters that ensure the desired efficiency. On the other hand, during operation and during commissioning, operational problems may arise that must be identified and analyzed in order to prevent their occurrence and / or reduce their effect on desorption efficiency. The objective of this study is to analyze and study the operational variables in the Amine Regeneration Unit from its start-up and operation in order to explain its effects on the desorption process and, if applicable, determine limits in the ranges of operational parameters and / or recommendations that help to improve the desorption operation.
