Oil is the most widely used source of commercial energy in the world. It is therefore essential to know their availability to provide its replacement without very sharp impacts or significant in the energy matrix. For the petroleum engineer, it is essential to know as accurately as possible the reserves of a field to establish the development plan that maximizes the recovery of the hydrocarbons in situ. For oil companies, reserves are a matter of work, an asset to be developed and monetized. One of the difficulties when calculating reserves in northwestern Peru is the lack of information, which generates inaccuracies in the estimation of reserves for new wells. However, it can be used with historical data from previous drilling campaigns, which allows estimating the variation in the trend of a typical curve or its evolution over time. On the other hand, through a more detailed analysis of drilling campaigns, a more precise behavior of the trend of new wells can be obtained. This will allow better comparison of type curves rather than just using one type curve per formation. In the present research work, we sought to estimate more precisely the remaining reserves of oil wells through a better adjustment of the decline parameters of the Arps type curves. Based on the historical data of the drilling campaigns, that is, a calculation of the parameters b and Di of the Arps type curve was performed for each drilling campaign in the study block, obtaining the declination parameters, thus knowing its historical evolution and which will be the best values for future campaigns, achieving a more real adjustment of the new campaigns. This demonstrated that it is possible to reduce the uncertainty in the estimation of the parameters of the Arps type curves, which translates into a more precise estimate of reserves (33 to 55%) with a more certain economic profitability of new drilling campaigns.
