This work developed a study to increase the power capacity from an existing transmission line, in 60 kV, by changing the original Cupper conductor for a new one of All Aluminum Alloy with wider cross section, keeping a pretty similar unit weight than the original, and respecting existing line’s path and structures. This power increase will respond to an increasing power supply demand. This wider cross section is the key element to increase the ampacity of the line’s conductor which translate into an increment in the current that can be transported, leading to an increased power transmission capacity of the line. It was analyzed the impact of this new conductor over existing structures, from the loading and location points of view, to verify that they can be used respecting proper safety factors for a brand new line, but considering some reduction in theirs original loading capacities, due to the exposure time since the moment this line was installed to the moment when this study was performed. All this study was done considering keeping as much as the original service route as possible, but if necessary, to include some variations where the service route has been affected by the urban development around the line. Finally, it is proposed some execution criteria to achieve this power upgrade.
