The optimization of metal recovery process by the flotation method has been a constant challenge for the professionals involved, first through studies, tests, and small-scale simulations in the laboratory with samples of the mineral to be treated, then looking for the most optimal circuit design (flow chart), after through equipment selection and flotation cells with the most suitable characteristics and finally the construction stage including the mechanical disciplines, electrical and control and automation system disciplines, considering the variables of maintainability and safety; and finally, the efficient operation of the plant. This optimization project belongs to the operation stage and seeks to reduce costs in consumption of reagents (OPEX), which is used in large quantities in the process and its correct dosage is the most important variable to achieve high recovery of the valuable metal present in the mineral. In this work, the 6 Sigma methodology is applied to develop a qualitative and quantitative process analysis to identify the critical and vital variables that have the greatest impact on the inefficient use of reagents and consequently produce losses in the process capacity, after this, an improvement plan is drawn up and implemented focused on these vital variables and with the Automation support it is possible to establish better control of variables that will ultimately lead to a process capacity increase and a in reagent consumption decreases without reducing the recovery percentage nor concentrates quality. Additionally, the project economic benefits and the costs incurred for its implementation are detailed.
