Among the functions carried out by the COES, is that of short-term programming where the objective is to minimize the total cost of operation by optimally using the available resources, assigning the power generation of all the plants that are members of the SEIN. In the case of hydroelectric plants, this generation assignment is made by plant and does not consider whether this plant can be made up of units, so it is in the hands of the plant operator to distribute the power assigned to each of the units. With this, the question arises as to which would be the most optimal distribution, knowing the variability of the efficiency of each unit for each operating point. In the present work, the optimization model will be developed in such a way that the power assigned as the power plant given by the COES is optimally distributed among all the units of the hydraulic power plant, for this the production function of generation of the plant considering the efficiency curves of each hydraulic turbine and each of the generators. First, the equations that govern the generation production of a hydroelectric plant and the main characteristics of the optimization models applied for this type of equations are reviewed, selecting the most appropriate model. Then we proceed to implement the optimization model in GAMS®. Finally, the model is applied to the “Cerro del Águila” hydroelectric plant, showing and analyzing the results and economic benefits after the implementation of said model.
