The present study has followed a scientific research procedure whose main objective was to demonstrate that the personnel in the tarring area of a fishing net manufacturing industry are exposed to benzene due to the use of several chemical products whose formula contains benzene. The quantification of the benzene concentration was done by using the Stoffenmanager software, a method recognized worldwide. The percentage of benzene concentration was taken as 0.1%, which is the maximum concentration allowed in chemical products. A methodology was developed that focuses on the identification of the basic characterization, exposure assessment and exposure control. The methodology includes the use of Stoffenmanager, GES (Group of Similar Exposure), Benzene Exposure Surveillance Program and controls based on international recommendations. New working conditions were virtually designed as part of the vision to update the engineering presentation on the proposed controls to be implemented. In the results of the research, the Wilcoxon test was used showing that there is a significant affectation in the exposure to benzene due to the working conditions. In addition, the existence of a moderate correlation has been determined, since the statistical table shows a coefficient equal to 0.726, on the Spearman scale meaning moderate correlation, i.e., the higher the concentration of benzene, the higher the probability of extra risk of cancer for life. Also, the T-Student test was performed, showing that there are significant differences between the probability of extra lifetime cancer risk before and after being controlled by the modifications of the working conditions. Finally, it shows the exposure of workers in the tarring area through the inhalation of vapors of chemical agents containing benzene.
