The characterization of the reservoir is carried out using different techniques such as log interpretation, core analysis, seismic, well test interpretation, among others. Pressure tests are a key tool for obtaining characteristic parameters of reservoirs. The Pariñas Inferior formation of the Álvarez Oveja reservoir in the Talara basin consists of medium to fine-grained sands with high clay content and is considered a low permeability reservoir. For low permeability reservoirs it is often difficult to obtain a reliable result from a conventional pressure test analysis because the time required to reach radial flow is very long. At present, one of the most common operations in the Northeast-Peru is hydraulic fracturing, which is one of the most effective techniques to increase productivity in low permeability reservoirs, its objective is to fracture the formation of interest and from this a way to facilitate the flow of hydrocarbons to the face of the well and produce commercial volumes of oil. In a hydraulic fracturing operation, before carrying out the main treatment, the Mini-FallOffTest can be performed. The Mini-FallOffTest is a technical and economical solution that allows determining reservoir parameters and provides information to optimize the hydraulic fracturing technique. The scope of this work is to show the application of the Mini-Fall Off Test technique in low permeability reservoirs such as the Pariñas Inferior formation of the Álvarez Oveja deposit. In addition, this work includes a detailed guide for the interpretation of the Mini Fall Off Test to obtain reservoir parameters (transmissibility and reservoir pressure), as well as the fracture parameters (fracture closure pressure, Leak-Off behavior, and fracture pressure). The results and the application of the new proposed methodology allowed creating a series of steps in the completion of the wells, in tum a better characterization of the reservoir helped to generate recommendations to define new opportunities in decision-making.
