One of the problems facing the hydroelectric generation sector in Peru is the optimization of water resources. The speed governor systems in a hydroelectric plant don’t have control systems that achieve the optimization of the active power generated because they are based on conventional control algorithms, which don’t have adequate performance indicator. For this reason, the present thesis seeks to design a control algorithm based on fuzzy PID for a speed governor of an 80 MW generator set of a hydroelectric plant, in order to improve the active power generated. To achieve the above, it begins with the approach of an adequate mathematical modeling that describes the dynamics and behavior of a hydroelectric plant. Next, the design of the fuzzy PID control algorithm is carried out, whose performance is compared with the mechanical-hydraulic PID algorithms and PID control by pole assignment by simulation using the MATLAB Student R2020a software. Subsequently, the results obtained will be compared and validated using performance indicator such as the establishment time, percentage of overshoot and considering the ISE index (integral of the squared error).
