In this professional sufficiency research, an analysis is made of the loading condition of the hybrid propulsion system of a harbor tugboat, for the purpose of verifying a reduction in fuel consumption. As an analysis unit is a 6008 HP propulsion harbor tugboat, named RM Tupaq, which operates in the port of Callao. Likewise, the research describes the problematic situation of excessive fuel consumption of the propulsion system, which is one of the main impacts on the operating costs of a port tug, According to Caterpillar (2014), “High speed solutions for harbor and terminal tugboats” [11]. The research involves the collection of information from electronic controllers for diesel propulsion engines installed in the tugboat, this information details the loading conditions of the vessel throughout its period of operation Moreover, the technical specifications are collected the propulsion engines, generators and azimuths of the vessel. The research analysis, the load condition of the tugboat propulsion system is studied in three modes of operation; sailing at low speeds or in standby, sailing at high speeds or in low power maneuvers and in high power maneuvers. According to the results of the analysis, a 4,9 % reduction in fuel consumption is determined when using a hybrid propulsion system compared to a conventional diesel propulsion system. With all the information and the analysis carried out throughout this investigation, the respective conclusions and recommendations are presented.
