The present research is about the DC motors study and control that can be applied to the dipper trip system in a Cat 7495 electric shovel to improve reliability and increase rope lifetime of that system. Electric motors are found in most industries due to many applications that can offer. In addition, its characterized control versatility greatly increases its advantages over other technologies. In our case, the dipper trip system rope lifetime and reliability of the electric shovels will be the dependent variable that we wish to increase and for this we will use the DC motors torque control theory. As part of the study, the DC motors armature current monitoring (related to torque) of the entire electric shovels fleet of the mining operation and in different situations will be shown. This has the aim of finding a trend and thus implementing an improved control, considering the information collected and the operators working way.
