A large number of vehicles circulate inside the underground road tunnels that emit pollutant gases that endanger the health of users and even the visibility. Therefore, it is required to maintain a breathable and non-toxic atmosphere in these environments. Hence, their air must be renewed through ventilation systems, which are sized based on studies that determine permissible levels of concentration for polluting gases. In order to carry out the appropriate control of the ventilation system and improve the safety of its operation, it is proposed here the design of a monitoring system for the concentration of polluting gases that increase operation safety in underground high-load vehicular tunnels. This design will include the development of a control architecture based on PLC, sensors and other components, and the design of the SCADA system for monitoring the composition of the polluting gases.
