The wheat milling industry is a highly specialized and automated activity that meets high quality standards, with the objective of separating the maximum amount of endosperm from the bran and germ. In order to increase the amount of flour, the availability of equipment must be guaranteed to reduce production losses or increase the wheat milling load. However, if the wheat milling load is increased in an uncontrolled way, it will influence flour extraction and the quality of finished products. In this research, the following operational indicators are choosen: milling extraction percentage and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), in order to reach the desired balance to increase productivity in wheat flour manufacturing, through the reduction of the six big losses. Based on the information of operational indicators previously mentioned, a computer program is developed with VBA programming language, which allows factory workers to: register daily equipment availability information, visualize the Pareto diagram of plant shutdown and prioritize action plans to increase productivity in the wheat milling industry. With the equipment effectiveness analysis, it will be possible to determine how six big losses influence to flour manufacturing productivity. Key words: equipment availability, flour extraction, wheat flour manufacturing, wheat milling industry, productivity, six big losses.
