In the last 15 years the GDP of the construction sector has grown 7.69% per year with a peak growth of 17.8% in 2010, which results in the most important economic activities in the country. This growth has boosted the search for new technologies and products for improve, among other topics, the speed of construction processes execution and production costs optimization. Another important advance in the field of study is the design and construction codes, intended to protect the country's infrastructure investment. The current thesis studies the structural behavior of a building destined for an educational institution which presents a change in the slab system (initially projected with slabs composed of prestressed joists and modified before execution of work by precast slabs). In addition to this, the structural irregularity of the building has been taken and considered the updating of the E.030 standard for earthquake too. For this purpose, has been carried out a comparative analysis, which shows an increase in structural response in the building with a precast slab system compared to the one designed with prestressed joists. From this, we can highlight that the shear forces at the base show increases of less than 2%. Finally, has been carried out the design verification of the most important structural elements, of which it can be mentioned that they present a suitable design. Information described in this thesis is part of Request for Information (RFI) prepared by contractor previously and during the project execution stage, in which the author was part of site supervision staff.
