This work has developed the identification of critica! factors during the start-up of the feeding system, corresponding to the fluidized solids section of the Flexicoking Unit of the new Talara refinery belonging to Petróleos del Perú - Petroperú. This complex will be one of the few units around the world to operate with Flexicoking technology licensed by ExxonMobil. The objective of the Unit is to continuously process 22,600 BDS of vacuum residue from the Vacuum Distillation Unit, to maximize the production of cake gas, cake naphtha, light and heavy gas oils, generate a Flexigas that will be used as fuel gas in the refinery furnaces, and to a lesser extent to obtain cake. The scope of this study will be the feeding system of this Unit, which includes the arrival of the residual vacuum from the Vacuum Distillation Unit until it enters the Reactor, where the thermal cracking reactions will take place. This system has equipment such as: pumps, filters, steam generator, feeding container, box cooler, Scrubber and Reactor. The description of the start-up steps of this system has been made and the factors, whose failures or deviations, could cause problems during this stage have been identified. The water vapor condensate, the overflow of slurry from the Scrubber to the Reactor, the detachment of refractory from the Reactor, the desfluidization of the cake, the parameters of the main equipments, the availability of raw material supply, auxiliary services, among others, are factors to take into account during start-up to achieve stabilization of the unit and ensure future safe operation.
