The aim of this professional sufficiency work is to study the versatility of mills dressed with tungsten carbide Inserts in comparison with mills dressed with crushed tungsten carbide when performing milling in workover activities This thesis consists of 8 chapters where chapter 6 details the comparative analysis between mills with tungsten carbide inserts and mills dressed with crushed tungsten carbide in durability, rate of penetration (ROP) and revolutions per minute (RPM) as well as the calculations from minimum and maximum surface feet per minute (SFPM) of each tool for its best performance. This comparison shows the efficiency in routine and non-routine work in addition to the modifications and design that allows to have a unique model for each kind of work. The results obtained for this work were collected from workover operations in South America, where most of the operations were carried out in Argentina. In order to correctly assess mills, most of scenarios have been considered in terms of vertical wells such as: cased hole or open hole, with broken pipe or cemented pipe, with recoverable packer stuck or non-recoverable packer stuck and their respective combinations. Due to the number of possibilities, milling tools and cleaning tools have been considered, with emphasis on milling tools and the bottom hole assembly (BHA) to use in this kind of procedures due to this is the focus of the study of this thesis. Finally, by the end of the evaluation of mills dressed with tungsten carbide inserts, a case is proposed, which allows to make calculations of the operation and show us the savings in time and costs in contrast with its predecessor, mills dressed with crushed tungsten carbide. The case presented was the simplest to have the same conditions and similar operational parameters and still notice the savings, to finally project it to workover campaigns where the savings would be much more significant.
