This professional sufficiency research work is based on the study of the level of fire risk in a shopping arcade and its relationship with the National Construction Regulation (RNE) The level of fire risk of a building allows to quantify the susceptibility that exists to suffer damages due to a fire, this damage occurs in the occupants, in the content of the building, in the structure of the building or in the losses generated by the paralysis of activity. The risk of fire is a parameter related to the construction materials, the activity carried out in the building, the active protection against fires, among others. These are regulated by various national standards, including the National Construction Regulation. National regulations establish minimum safety requirements for the mandatory fulfillment of the purpose of protecting the population, their heritage and the environment. These standards are based, in some cases, on international standards, for example, those of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The existence of adequate national standards must be complemented with adequate application by trained professionals, in addition to the supervision of authorities that allow maintaining optimal conditions and low risk over time. In accordance with all the aforementioned, in this study, the fire risk value of a shopping arcade is calculated through the Simplified Fire Risk Assessment Method (MESERI), later improvements are proposed in accordance with RNE and with an inspection format of the National Center for Estimation, Prevention and Reduction of Natural Disasters (Anexo 12A VISE). Finally, the fire risk value is recalculated to analyze its variation. The reduction of the fire risk in a shopping arcade is demonstrated through the proper use of RNE and Annex 12A VISE, since the final risk value improves by 26.5% and the Risk Rating improves from “Bad” to “Good“.
