The present research work analyzes the manual handling process of butyl acrylate in chemical plants to identify the influence of the process on the health of the operating personnel and proposes the design of an automated bulk dispatch system based on EBAM good practices. For this, reports and bulletins developed by the ILO and WHO were reviewed, where the main risks that affect worker health in South America and the world are identified. The present study proposes the hypothesis of reducing the risk to the health of the operating personnel by automating the bulk dispatch process of butyl acrylate. The selected unit of study was the manual reception, storage and dispatch process of butyl acrylate in cylindrical containers within a chemical plant. Subsequently, data was collected on the main variables of the manual process. Based on this, activities, times and quantities were identified. To identify the main dangers, the risk analysis of the main activities of the process was carried out, obtaining high-level results (significant and moderate risk level). For the development of the design of the automated system, the design parameters are established based on the good practices of EBAM (2015) and the data of the manual process collected. Standards ISA S5.4, ISA 75.01.01-2012 and ISA 95 were used for the instrumentation and control of the automated system. At the end of the development of the design of the automated system, the risk analysis and the calculation of times of the automated process is carried out. The data obtained show that the duration of the dispatch process was shortened, the worker's contact with the product was eliminated and that the risk levels are low (tolerable). Finally, the indicator analysis is carried out and the hypothesis is contrasted, obtaining a positive result because the automated process uses instruments that replace the worker by eliminating his contact with the monomer, reducing the exposure time to zero, which implies a lower risk to the worker's health. The study concludes by accepting the hypothesis due to the fact that the process time of the automated system is 82% less than that of the manual process and that the automated system presents fewer risks to health.
